So many things I could say about this one. For years I was not captivated by the Mona Lisa. Sure I heard the hype – but the reasons behind it escaped me. In my view it was a “nice” painting but not something that grabbed my attention or made me note it as anything more than another portrait among a cast of too many to count. Funny how we change.

I don’t recall the exact reason I decided to paint her, or how she became the base of the concept constance. It may have been while musing on the timelessness of the classic art works.

I wanted some figure practice when I started playing with digital painting and did this a few years back in Photoshop. I was just beginning to get the idea of layer blending but still relied on the smudge tool for a lot of the finer details. It gives it an over softened texture in my view, but I still love the colors in this and would love to attempt something similar with real paint on a canvas.

Another photo referenced digital piece I was inspired to do because of the color and the light. This one like several of them relies too much on Photoshop’s smudge tool to blend the subtle colors together.

At the time this was done I was still struggling with how to blend shades together and eventually I abandoned finishing this. I would love to paint a version of this on canvas.
